6/8/2009 Penang Bridge

I have always wanted to go to the shore near Penang Bridge for photo shooting, I have never done that until tonight. The main reason I chose to shoot at the evening is that I want the light reflection on the sea. So after dinner, I just packed my stuff, and drove to sport center near the View, and parked my car there. After some "adventurous" journey crossing the highway with my feet, I finally arrived to the destination and begin my photo shooting.

Penang Bridge

The Moon is coming out

The star burst of the light on the bridge is formed using small aperture, like f/16 and below. In the other way round, if you do not want the star burst effect, instead you want the halo effect, then you will have to switch to wider aperture, for example, f/8, f/5.6 or wider aperture.

The Moon and the bridge, make up a nice photo. The existence of the Moon is out of my expectation

Part of the land that I was standing on was included into the photo as the foreground of the photo

The Moon in black and white, taken with small aperture and slow shutter speed

The Moon and the stars

After spending 2 hours there, again, I had an "adventurous" journey back to my car, crossing the highway and some fields. Though, the journey is a bit dangerous, but it's worth it.

PS: After the photo shooting, I only realized there's a way for the car to drive in, as many Malays drove in to that area for fishing, dumb me.

I used the Sony 75-300mm f/4.5-6.3 to shoot the moon, it's the lens that comes along with my kit.

I didn't use any star filter, in fact, you don't need one, what you need to do is just use small aperture, like f/16 and below, I used f/22 and it creates the star burst effect. (Tripod of course is a need :P)

I guess it's actually depends on the lens, not the mount, it depends heavily on the diaphragm blades in your lens (the one that control the aperture).

ISO: 100
Shutter: 13 secs
Aperture: f/18
Focal Length: 26mm
Metering Mode: Spot

The star burst will have to depends on the lens you use. I am using Sigma AF17-70 f/2.8-4.5.
